When Kenny LaBelle brought his Neil Diamond tribute The Diamond Collection, to the Majestic Theater this year the show will had a bit of a twist. The band featured an actual member of Neil Diamond's touring band.
The Diamond Collection was joined on stage by longtime Diamond percussionist King Errisson.
"I saw Neil Diamond in 1976 at the Springfield Civic Center," said LaBelle. "I had already been a fan for several years but this was the first time he came so close. I ended up watching King more than Neil. Very cool guy on stage."
LaBelle's fascination with Diamond and his music grew, as did his appreciation of Errisson and his talents.
"I've always admired his stage persona," LaBelle said.
The Diamond Collection has just released its third album "Cold Water Morning," a live record of Diamond covers.
"King has a copy and says he loves how we play Neil's stuff," said LaBelle.
